Kudu
Kudu (Strepsiceros strepsiceros)

A large grayish brown African antelope with large annulated spirallytwisted horns. Baden Powell first saw the Kudu (or Koodoo) in Africa during the 1896 Matabele Campaign. The Matabele tribe used the twisted horn of the kudo as a signal horn. BP brought a horn back to England, and usedit to awaken the Brownsea Camp - the first scout camp - in 1907.The kudu horn was also used for all signals at the very first scoutmaster'straining camp held at Gilwell in September, 1919. Thesetraditions continue today at Wood Badge.
