Breeds easily during warm weather (May - Sep). 270 - 285 day gestation with one calf. Calves born red without horns or hump; color changes start at 2 months, also starts getting horny. Females and males equally horny. Travels in herd of 20 - 30. Lives 20- 25 years. Even toed ungulate. Continual eater; has four stomachs and ruminates. Has no upper canines. Herding with opaque plastic easy method of directing; can run at 48 km/h. European bison (wisent) is humpless variety; Canadian bison is smaller and hides in trees.
